ANUMC Leader Training Subsidy Scheme

The ANUMC considers trip leaders to be crucial to the running of the club. To encourage people to lead trips, and to maintain and increase their skills, we operate a subsidy scheme (the LTSS). This provides a retrospective subsidy of $120 for every five trips run by a leader.

A ‘trip’ is defined as a full day or longer trip, advertised through the Fridge Door on the club website. Other activities can count as credit towards the subsidy. The following are considered equivalent to a ‘trip’.

  • Two instruction sessions (e.g. rope skills, kayak rolling, navigation workshops)
  • Three short activities (e.g. dawn paddling, wall officer duties, short bushwalks such as Mt Ainslie). A limit of one $120 subsidy per year may be claimed as a result of short activities in this category.

Training can include any relevant skills to trip leading, for example:

  • Senior or remote area first aid (this is the most common type of training). Subsidies can be claimed under the LTSS in addition to first aid subsidies paid for under category F of the SRA grant, so long as the total claimed doesn’t exceed the cost of the course.
  • Leadership training
  • Professional training in a relevant activity, e.g. rock climbing, kayaking.

How to claim your subsidy:
It’s simple! Just send an email to the vice president and the treasurer with the following details:

  • The trips/activities you ran (names and dates);
  • The name and the date of the training course you did;
  • The amount of subsidy you are claiming; and
  • An up to date address to send the cheque to.

The vice president will confirm details of the trips using the database generated by the online trip registration system, and the treasurer will then write a cheque! Cheques should be available within four weeks (because a second signature by another member of the executive is required, cheques are usually written at the committee or executive meetings).
