We're taking the navigation workshop outdoors this weekend to gain some practical exposure. The plan is to go for a bushwalk out at Namadgi, and navigate to a number of locations, practice resections, reading map and terrain, following bearings, etc. We'll go as one group, and I'll explain the navigational techniques on the way. Bring your compass if you have one, or hire one from the Gear store. I will bring maps, so that everyone can do the navigation for themselves as we go. Departure is 9.00 on Sunday morning from the SRA, and we'll meet at Honeysuckle creek camp ground at 10. I'll arrange cars via email (no pretrip) - please fill in the number of car seats you have when you sign up. You can also go straight to Honeysuckle if you live down south, but please drop me an email to let me know. We will cover approximately 10 km, partially on track, but mostly off track to see some variety of terrain. Duration is 4-5 hours. Terrain is mostly good to walk on, with occasional sections of some shrub, some uphill and downhill (about 300-400m of altitude in total) with a few short steep sections. I'm still working on the exact route - it will be a loop, with possibilities to turn back early if necessary. According to the club's bushwalking rating, the trip classifies as Distance: Short to medium Sign-up is open to everyone, not just people that came to the nav workshop. If the group gets too big, attendees will get preference. Please sign up by Friday lunchtime, to give me enough time to sort out cars and maps. Start: 09:30
End: 18:00
Queenbeyan has vertical climbs that can be top-roped! I'm running a day trip to Queenbeyan (previously Kambah) to do some easy climbs (mid-teens), maybe greater if anyone wants to do them. People who are up for an easy day climbing, and have some experience climbing outdoors and belaying are welcome to come. If you're unsure send me an e-mail on melstamell@hotmail.com. People should bring their own harness, shoes, belay devices etc and i'll borrow the rest from the club. Also, you may want to bring warm clothes as it could be cold. We'll meet in front of the uni gym at 9:30 am (apologies if this seems late but i have things i need to do in the morning). | ||
