As days get warmer and longer, there will be opportunities over the next month or so for confident paddlers who would like to try some relatively easy whitewater. These trips will be short - usually half days - and be organised at fairly short notice, (ie after rain). Most trips will be on the Murrumbidgee just near Canberra, with rapids of grade 1-3. Paddlers will need wetsuits, thermals and booties/volleys. Helmets, PFDs and other safety gear will be provided.

** Note: these trips are not for first-time paddlers and not for second-time paddlers either. You need to be comfortable and experienced with paddling the whitewater boats on Lake Burley Griffin, including turning, bracing and wet-exits, and preferably with a reliable eskimo roll. If you're feeling a bit rusty or unsure, come out on the lake first.

10/10/09. Great trip down the Murrumbidgee today from Point Hut Crossing to Pine Island. Grade 1-2 rapids, good level (2.2 at Lobbs gauge), took us about 3 hours. Got some practice on eddy turning, ferry gliding, and rolling. Coupla swims as always - thanks to our experienced safety paddlers for hepling out.
