I'm looking for a group of experienced and adventurous bushwalkers who would like to come explore the Western Arthurs in Tasmania including climbing Federation peak. I have been wanting to do this walk for a few years, but have been prevented by injury etc. Two weeks will be needed to complete the traverse allowing some time for bad weather.
The Western Arthurs, located ~ 90km south west of Hobart, is undoubtedly the most spectacular walk in South West Tasmania. This is a beautiful and challenging area.
February is usually the most settled weather for walking in Tasmania, however this range is subjected to the worst weather the South-West receives. Storms and snowfalls occur every summer and trip participants should be prepared for living in cold, wet conditions for the duration of the trip. The horizontal distances covered each day seem short but due to the rugged, steep terrain the walking is slow and arduous.
If you would like to come ideally you will have been on a > 3 day bushwalk before and not be put off by walking in the rain and mud and rock scrambling in your bushwalking boots with a pack.
If you are interested in this trip please contact me (jasminerickards@yahoo.com.au) to work out whether it is right for you. Dates etc may change depending on when we can get flights etc.
