Sunday morning will be a further ski lesson. Sunday afternoon we'll try our skills out by ourselves at Perisher. Leave around 4pm to come back to Canberra.

Costs
ski lesson: $62.50 for both days
car + park fee + chains: $40 - $55
Total: $103 - $118

Conditions
Subject to the below conditions, total payment is non-refundable. This is to be fair to the other participants who will need to pay additional costs to cover those who do not attend.

Upon determination by the trip leader, the trip maybe cancelled due to poor weather conditions. At least one week prior notice will be given if this is the case. If the trip is cancelled by the trip leader because of poor weather, a full refund will be given.

The trip meeting will be held before the trip, Thursday 17 June at 5.30pm at the gear store, make sure you arrive on time to properly hire and fit your gear.
At the pre-trip we'll discuss:
1) organising transport including cars, directions, and times;
2) make arrangements to share tents;
3) hire skis and other equipment;
4) discuss meal arrangements - probably dinner at Perisher on the Sat night so we don't have to bother with stoves and cooking, but open to suggestions
5) general gear to bring

You'll need to bring along some money to hire stuff but we'll work out the rest of the transport costs over the course of the weekend. You'll also need to take your skis home with you, unless one of our drivers is happy to take them and store them until saturday.

Please contact Jeanne on 0432 796 049 or Yi on 0422 466 172 if you have any questions.

More info:
First Timers and Beginners Ski Lessons are designed for those who have never skied before or who have only done a little bit of skiing. There is no need to have any prior experience or even to have been to the snow before! The aim of these lessons is to give every club member the chance to try cross country skiing and gain the basic skills that you will need on other club trips.

Because everybody on these trips is first time skiers and beginners you will stay on gentle slopes without any pressure to keep up with more experienced skiers. The lessons are with fully qualified instructors from Wilderness Sports who will teach you the basic cross country skills. Having done a lesson all members will be ready for easy club day trips! If you pick up skiing quickly you may be ready for an easy overnight trip after just one lesson! That said, most members will need to follow up the lesson with a day trip (or two) before they have the skills for overnight trips.

What is Cross Country (XC) Skiing?

XC skiing is a popular winter sport. There are different styles of XC skiing and the club uses NNN-BC and Telemark equipment which is ideal for backcountry tours but is not designed for skating on prepared trails. This means that the ANUMC equipment allows you to ski pretty much anywhere that there is snow! The versatility of the ANUMC equipment means that club members go on ski trips for a range of reasons ranging from simply doing a “bushwalk on skis” to backcountry downhill where they find a steep slope to challenge themselves.
