This is one I've wanted to do for a while, so come and join me in bagging this beautiful craggy peak.
The Tinderry Range is south of Canberra/Queanbeyan near the village of Michelago. It features dense eucalypt forest with craggy granite boulders - similar to Namadgi. The deep green of the range provides an interesting contrast to the bare Monaro Plains further south.
The summit of Tinderrry Twin Peak is a challenging day walk. It is 13km return - along fire trail and then some hard bushbashing (approx 3.5km) to reach the summit. The overall altitude gain is 760metres with some very steep sections. Another thing to keep in mind at this time of year is that we have limited daylight (hence the early start), and with the summit above 1500m, there could even be patches of snow about, necessitating great care for the boulder scrambling at the summit. My guide book also warns of wild boars around the area....great! Nevertheless, if you are up for this challenge, I believe it will be very rewarding.
This walk is suitable for people with a good level of fitness, and who don't mind a bit of rough bushbashing and rock scrambling. If you are unsure, send me an email.
This trip will also be a good opportunity for navigation practice. Maps: Michelago and Tinderry 1:25000
