Silhouette Slab is a remote crag on the back of Mt Scabby, with a range of trad routes, some easy. I'm thinking of this as a hybrid climbing and mountaineering activity, with logistics, fitness and teamwork all part of the fun. The walk in is an afternoon from the vicinity of Yaouk, and according to the guidebook there is camping and water near the cliff (this is all pre-fire information though). I plan on getting there on the Saturday of the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend, getting camped, and scoping out the crag; climbing on Sunday, packing up and coming back on Monday, possibly with a route first. From what I've seen, this is a trip for experienced bushwalkers and rock climbers, and I'm looking at it as an opportunity to get folks together who might be interested in doing similar, but bigger, things in NZ next season.
