This trip will circumnavigate (and climb) Mt Jagungal in the Snowy Mountains. Mt Jagungal is one of the mythical destinations for cross country skiers. Check it out before the snow comes. The walking will be 1/3 over untracked terrain and the rest on firetrails or tracks. Days will be less than 20kms. We will start on the eastern boundary of the Kosciuzsko National Park. Access will be by 4 wheel drive (Subarus are OK) - the cars are parked about 1 km from Cesjacks Hut. We will walk in an anti-clockwise direction up to Tibedeous Hut (aka Mackeys) then past the ruin of O'Keefes climbing up Jagungal as a side trip plus an unlikely waterfall that not many people know about. Then onto Grey Mare Hut, Valentine's Falls and Valentine's Hut and then out via Mawson's Hut and Cesjack's Hut. The walking should be generally easy with medium length days. We will depart early Saturday Morning returning Monday evening. The weather forecast looks OK for the weekend (as of Monday). The rumours of lots of snow in the area are completely unfounded - I was there last weekend and all the snow that fell at the end of April is gone. Numbers may be limited by 4WD vehicles.
